serve

"I am among you as one who serves."

-Luke 22:24-27

The one whom we rightly proclaim to be “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords” came to us not as a master of men, but a humble servant. As a community of faith, committed to the teachings of the gospel, we recognize that modeling ourselves in His image compels us outward. We are not to focus solely on our own spiritual growth, but we are to answer the calling of service to others in need.

We live in a world that bears and endures much suffering: the poor, the outsider, the abandoned, those suffering persecution, the downtrodden, those whose spirits have been broken. Regardless of race, gender, economy, locale-the need for Christ to care for the least of us in spirit or status is universal. It is through the spiritual growth and nurturing that takes place in our worship, our study, and strength gained through immersion into a community of faith that God reveals his plan and purpose in our lives. Universally, that purpose includes you as an extension of His kingdom into a world experiencing darkness and pain as a bearer of His light and redemption.

As servants, we care and nurture for those within our four wall. Our service extends outward, compelled by living a life in Christ, to touch all corners of the world. The gospel according to James teaches us that faith without deeds is dead. The inverse is also true. We engage in service to others, not to be “good deed doers,” but humbled individuals with grateful hearts; saved and redeemed by His grace. We engage in serving others as an expression of the outpouring of His love that saved us and transformed our lives, so that others might share in the joy of being transformed by a life in Christ.

Join us by becoming a part of a community of faith focused upon being Christ centered and obedient to His calling in our lives. Explore the many ways in which our part of the body of Christ has been compelled serve. Where might your talents and God’s calling lead you to serve? Inside the church? Locally? Globally? Consider how God has lead us to reach out with His word and listen for how He is calling you to serve.
